Chamber Ensembles
Gatto Dolce Duo

“Performing great chamber music with humorous anecdotes on the life and times of the composers.”
Colin Matthews and Max Kasper first met in the 1980's while both were students in the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. After a decade of playing in different parts of the country, Colin and Max found themselves living in Halifax where they started reading duets for fun. Their debut concert was at Bearly's House of Blues and Ribs. Since then, Colin and Max have played in many places around the province, including many house concerts, the Octagon, the Lillian Piercy Concert Hall and the Music Room. Their first CD “Gatto Dolce Duo, Duets for Cello and Bass”, was released in 2008. They have developed many themed shows including: “The Seven Deadly Sins”, “Love Lives of the Great Composers”, “Schubert's Unfinished Trout” and “Bad Boy Composers”, which is the title and topic of their second CD, released in 2025.
In 2021, Musique Royale produced the “Cookie Concert - Schubert's Unfinished Trout” linked below. Follow the link for a sample of the Gatto Dolce Duo experience.
Trio KLM

Trio KLM consists of double bassist Max Kasper, and cellists Catherine Little and Colin Matthews. Trio KLM started out of a love for playing chamber music. Getting together to play Colin's arrangements for this low-strings ensemble was a really good time. People started asking them to give private and public concerts, as well as live-streamed broadcasts, and before long the trio was born. Why KLM? It's just a simple combination of the first letter of each of their names. Not too exciting, but they save the excitement for their music and performances! Trio KLM makes audiences laugh with their foolish stage banter, has them leaning in to their expert sounds, and sprinkle a little backstory on the music, for curiosity's sake.
Trio KLM performs The Andante from J.S. Bach's Organ Sonata in E minor #4 BWV 528 with intro 'Absence' and arrangement by C.R. Matthews. https://youtu.be/7CClNI7U6Ig?si=5skdYU6Balvys_Uj
